Join KICLEI Canada
Start with coffee.
Bring the research to council.
Invite a few neighbours to talk about what’s happening in your municipality. Together, you can ask your council to review the programs it has joined, explain what those commitments cost, and consider what best serves your community today.
What you can do locally
-
Meet over coffee
Invite a few neighbours and pick one municipal program or decision you want to understand better. A small group meeting once a month is enough to get started.
-
Send the Council Audit Toolkit
Use the email template to send the toolkit to your councillors and municipal clerk. Ask council to review what the municipality signed up for, what it costs, and what options council has today.
-
Show up and follow through
Check the agenda and attend a meeting together. Ask the clerk how residents can submit comments or speak to council. Follow up respectfully and share what you learn with your neighbours.
We send the research. You show up.
KICLEI Canada gets the research in front of councillors. When you attend a meeting and follow up, councillors can see that residents are paying attention to what gets discussed and how decisions are made.
Bring a neighbour. Where meeting rules allow, bring a KICLEI tote so others who care about local decision-making can recognize you and say hello.

What we’re doing
We’re focusing our time and resources on sending the toolkit directly to councillors, sharing the research, and following up when they have questions.
What you can do now
Start with the people you already know. Share the toolkit and ask your council to review the programs your municipality has joined. As our capacity grows, we want to help neighbours in the same region find one another and work together.
Register your interest
Tell us where you live and how you’d like to get involved. You might organize a coffee meetup, share the Council Audit Toolkit, attend a council meeting with neighbours, or help with outreach.
Your municipality helps us understand where people are getting involved and where we may be able to connect neighbours as our network grows.
It’s free to sign up.
Join a national Zoom call
Meet others working with their local councils, hear what’s happening in other communities, and ask questions about using the Council Audit Toolkit.

Your support helps us keep council contact lists up to date, send the Council Audit Toolkit directly to councillors across Canada, and follow up when they have questions.
